Park Interpreter I

South Carolina State Park Service has 9 full-time historical interpretive
positions including one District Historical Interpreter.

We are currently expecting an opening for a cultural history Interpreter at
Redcliffe State Historic Site. Redcliffe is the homeplace of South Carolina
Governor James Henry Hammond. A colorful politician and successful cotton
planter, Hammond designed his new home for entertainment and as a showcase for
his art collection and as a restful retreat for his family.

This position is comprised of approximately 90% interpretation, program
development and resource management. The remainder of the duties offer
opportunities for experience in park management and operations.

Salary: $20,233. Housing and all state benefits included.

Qualifications: Must posses a Bachelor's degree in a related field. Excellent
proven communications skills are required. Must have experience in collections
management and be able to plan, coordinate and conduct historical and cultural
programs, including mansion tours, to a wide variety of clientele.

Job Purpose: To innovatively interpret the rich cultural and natural history
of the site. To assist in the protection and preservation of the historic
structures and landscape and to continually develop the site in order to
better serve as an attraction for the community and state.

Basic Duties:
1) Interaction with the general public through planning, promoting and
conducting tours, programs, workshops and activities for the park visitor.
2) Promotes the park and park service through personal contact, oral, and
written communications which includes regular press releases, of-park
presentations, newspaper articles, and other media appearances.
3) Conducts research on the historical, cultural, and natural resources of the
site to foster more understanding in interpretation and resource management.
Includes environmental monitoring, collections care, preservation, and
cataloging.
4) Recruits, trains, and supervises docents and volunteers in conducting
workshops and programs and other park projects.
5) Assists with park administrative and operational functions.
