The NAWCC Ward Francillon Time Symposium is seeking papers for the 2009
and 2010 Symposiums. The 2009 and
2010 Symposiums will be forums for papers covering a broad range of
topics related to timekeeping; no predefined
subject area or theme has been established. Papers may address but are
not limited to historical, technological,
scientific, and educational aspects of timekeeping. The Symposium is a
forum for the presentation of significant and
interesting research related to the art and science of timekeeping. As a
specialty chapter of the NAWCC your
members are greatly encouraged to submit papers on your chapter's
specialty that presents current research in your
chapter's area of specialty to share with others interested in
horological studies. We ask that you share with your
members this call for papers and encourage members to submit papers. The
NAWCC Ward Francillon Time
Symposium is one of our organization's finest educational events and we
encourage all to participate!
Also encouraged are proposals for panel sessions, roundtable
discussions, and any innovative means that facilitate
scholarly discourse. Priority will be given to well-constructed papers
showing original research. Authors should
expect to illustrate their lectures with visual aids. The 2009 Symposium
will be held on October 22-24, 2009 in
Lancaster, PA.
Interested authors should send a detailed 300-word abstract of their
proposed paper including the paper's title, author's
name, and email address by January 31, 2009, via email to:

These abstracts will be reviewed by members of the NAWCC Symposium
Committee. Successful proposals will be
identified by March 1, 2009.
Full papers must be submitted by August 1, 2009, for inclusion in the
2009 Symposium schedule. Should submission
occur beyond that date, or should the schedule become full for 2009,
papers will be considered for 2010. Presenters
should expect to provide Symposium attendees with an overview of their
paper and a discussion of its highlights in a
45-minute lecture to be followed by a question and answer session.
Authors presenting at the Symposium will have the Symposium registration
fee including banquet waived and will be
reimbursed for up to two-night hotel stay at the host hotel.
The NAWCC has first publication rights to papers presented at the
conference in the Association journal, The Bulletin
of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors, Inc., or
other NAWCC publications.
