The
NAWCC Ward Francillon Time Symposium is seeking papers for the 2009 and 2010
Symposiums. The 2009 and
2010
Symposiums will be forums for papers covering a broad range of topics related
to timekeeping; no predefined
subject
area or theme has been established. Papers may address but are not limited to
historical, technological,
scientific,
and educational aspects of timekeeping. The Symposium is a forum for the
presentation of significant and
interesting
research related to the art and science of timekeeping. As a specialty chapter
of the NAWCC your
members
are greatly encouraged to submit papers on your chapter’s specialty that
presents current research in your
chapter’s
area of specialty to share with others interested in horological studies. We
ask that you share with your
members
this call for papers and encourage members to submit papers. The NAWCC Ward Francillon
Time
Symposium
is one of our organization’s finest educational events and we encourage
all to participate!
Also
encouraged are proposals for panel sessions, roundtable discussions, and any
innovative means that facilitate
scholarly
discourse. Priority will be given to well-constructed papers showing original
research. Authors should
expect
to illustrate their lectures with visual aids. The 2009 Symposium will be held
on October 22-24, 2009 in

authors should send a detailed 300-word abstract of their proposed paper
including the paper’s title, author's
name,
and email address by January 31, 2009, via email to:

These
abstracts will be reviewed by members of the NAWCC Symposium Committee.
Successful proposals will be
identified
by March 1, 2009.
Full
papers must be submitted by August 1, 2009, for inclusion in the 2009 Symposium
schedule. Should submission
occur
beyond that date, or should the schedule become full for 2009, papers will be
considered for 2010. Presenters
should
expect to provide Symposium attendees with an overview of their paper and a
discussion of its highlights in a
45-minute
lecture to be followed by a question and answer session.
Authors
presenting at the Symposium will have the Symposium registration fee including
banquet waived and will be
reimbursed
for up to two-night hotel stay at the host hotel.
The
NAWCC has first publication rights to papers presented at the conference in the
Association journal, The Bulletin
of
the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors, Inc., or other NAWCC
publications.
