Try an acrylic gloss medium as your top coat‹it dries clear and doesnıt
dissolve your number. You donıt want to use a base and top coat that both
dissolve in the same solvent.  You want to be able to take off the top coat
and correct numbering without disturbing the bottom layer.  The fewer times
you remove your bottom layer, the better off your artifact is.

Minnesota Historical Society website.  Itıs very useful.
