Summary:

Experience Music Project | Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame
(EMP|SFM) in Seattle is seeking qualified candidates for an unpaid
internship for the Education team in Summer 2009.

Educator Resources Internship:

The Educator Resources Intern will assist the Manager, Interpretation
and Educator Resources, in developing, implementing, marketing and
assessing educator resources and events. Projects may include:

* Implementing improvements and new content in the Discovery Kit
curriculum lending program

* Assisting with planning and execution of educator events and
workshops on Latino musicians, the Space Race and American culture, the
science of sound and electrified instruments, and storytelling in new
media.

* Development of resources and events for current and upcoming
exhibitions, including Taking Aim: Rock 'n' Roll Photographs Selected By
Graham Nash and Nirvana and the Northwest Underground: 1982-1992.

* Researching and implementing innovative ways to disseminate
materials (iTunes University, Edtuit, blog for educators)

Learning Opportunities: The intern will learn about content development,
logistics and best practices in connection with museum education for the
K-12 educator constituency. Past interns have written curriculum,
implemented educator kits, co-presented at an education conference, and
helped create innovative educator programming. This will be an excellent
opportunity for students interested in content development, the educator
audience, and innovative solutions to serving local and national
school-based audiences. In addition, the intern will have the
opportunity to observe institutional transition with the appointment of
a new director in mid-summer.

All Internships Include:

* Opportunities to attend or participate in museum events.

* Participation in departmental, project team, and all-staff
meetings as available.

* Assisting with support work for the education department as
needed, which may include filing, generating mailing lists, preparing
workshop packets, etc.

Minimum Requirements/Special Skills:

* Bachelor's degree in education, humanities, history,
anthropology, or related field

* Demonstrated interest in museum career; current enrollment in
master's level program leading to museum employment preferred

* Comfortable with MS Office Applications

Application Process:

Interested candidates should submit a cover letter and resume to
[log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]> ,
specifying the internship area in the subject line and describing how
the position matches the candidate's qualifications and goals in the
cover letter. A writing sample is also requested.

Museum and Department Information:

The Education Department, in partnership with the Public Programs and
Curatorial Departments are at the heart of EMP|SFM's principal mission
to foster the exploration of the artist's creative process. Education
programs at EMP|SFM are designed to encourage both formal and
experiential learning to enable visitors to tap into their own creative
potential. Each year, the education and public programming staff bring
hundreds of artists, writers, academics, and journalists in the fields
of popular music, imaginative fiction, film, theatre and storytelling to
interact with Seattle audiences, educators, and students. Through a
range of offerings like Experience: The Band, our partnership with
Berklee College of Music; to Investigation Workshops in songwriting,
Latin percussion, the Science of Sound, and creative fiction for grades
3-12; to the annual Pop Conference; and interactive galleries such as
Sound Lab and On Stage; the central message of the Education Department
to all our visitors is, "You can do it."
