A good place to start might be this book: We Were There Too by Philip
Hoose (here's the publisher's website for the book:
http://www.weweretheretoo.com/index2.html ) It's an overview of children
and teens in American history, but looking at the Sources in the Amazon
preview, I see a number of biographies. It is written for middle school
readers, so younger than you had requested, but could lead some good
directions...

I am not sure if this is quite what you are looking for, but "Patty
Reed's Doll" may be close. It is her story, written from the
perspective of her doll as she "lived" in Patty's pocket to come west
with the Donner Party to California. Patty lived many more years, but
it is written from the perspective of a child's experience about her
life. May be a bit of a stretch, but there it is. Since the book is a
frequent component in California 4th grade history curricula, it should
be readily available.

Dear friends,
I'm canvassing the ever-helpful museum list to see if anyone can
direct me towards a well-written examples of a biography of a child.
It may be a bit of a stretch as I'm not looking for biographies
written *for* children, but about them. I realize that most people
have biographies written about them after a life full of
accomplishment, but one of the core collections at the Sweet Briar
Museum belonged to a girl who died at the age of sixteen, and I have a
student interested in writing her biography as an honors thesis. Can
anyone point me in the direction of a good model? Barring a biography
of a child, perhaps someone might recommend chapters of a full-fledged
biography in which the early years are dealt with in some detail.
