There are brochures on the website for the Society of American Archivists
that would be a good start for explaining to donors what various concerns need to
be addressed in making a donation.

Guide to Donating Your Personal or Family Papers to a Repository
Guide to Donating Your Organizational Records to a Repository

THese are designed primarily for potential donors who are planning to donate
personal papers and go into copyright implications (there is a difference
between physical ownership and intellectual ownership) but I think could easily be
adapted to suit museum situations.
