This position involves work of a professional nature serving as the
Educational Materials Specialist for the MDAH, Museum Division as well
as an educator and historian. The Educational Materials Specialist will
oversee and assist in the development of educational materials and
programs for the Museum Division and its historic sites. The incumbent
will be tasked with the oversight of the research and creation of
educational materials addressing the Mississippi Department of Education
Frameworks as well as working as the liaison with MDAH Public
Information Office. Duties will also include but are not limited to;
editor of /The Educators E-News/ publication for teachers, researching
and development of student and public programs, conduct tours, and
assist with the teacher training programs.Incumbent works under the
general supervision of the Director of Education.
Additional responsibilities include: developing special tours and
programs for students, volunteer materials, as well as assist in the
research and development of outreach programs, distance learning
programs and materials, and public programming planning for the opening
of the 2 Mississippi Museums.
*Education and experience must meet one of the following criteria:*
·Master’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university; and
one (1) year of experience defined below.
·Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university;
and two (2) years of special experience as defined below.
*Special qualifications: *At the Bachelor’s degree or higher level,
degree must be in education, museum studies, history, or southern
culture.Required work experience must have been inK-12 education or
museum education.

*Preferred qualifications include*:The ideal candidate will have strong
communication skills (oral and written), experience in public speaking,
familiarity with the Mississippi Department of Education Educational
Frameworks and Common Core, ability to perform administrative tasks,
computer skills including Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator,
Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint Etc.), and PC/Mac video
editing experience.The incumbent must be able to lift 45 lbs., stand for
extended periods of time, climb steps/ladders, lead groups, work outdoor
events, and conduct tours.
