SENIOR CURATOR
 
The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) is a state agency and membership organization that is fully accredited by the American Association of Museums.  The KHS mission is to engage people in the exploration of the Commonwealth’s diverse heritage by providing connections to the past, perspective on the present, and inspiration for the future. 
 
Are you brimming with ideas on how to make history come alive for a general audience? KHS is seeking an innovative Senior Curator to help us inspire and connect with the people of Kentucky. We’re looking for someone who knows history and historical artifacts, but is also interested in using active learning techniques to engage with audiences. We are interested in community connections, new technologies and innovative thought. 
 
The Senior Curator helps coordinate exhibit and artifact research and oversees the Society’s permanent exhibition, A Kentucky Journey. This team-oriented position within the Museum Collections and Exhibitions department has responsibility for both behind the scenes collections work AND public engagement. 
 
Minimum requirements are an M.A. in History, Museum Studies or a related field with five years curatorial experience and a demonstrated commitment to the concept of informal history learning. Proven skill in working with creative teams and developing innovative collections-driven programs is highly desirable. Effective management experience is preferred, but not required.  The position is based in Frankfort, Kentucky's capital city.  
 
Monthly salary is $3750.00.  Benefits include paid health and life insurance, vacation and sick leave, holiday pay, state retirement, and optional deferred compensation plan.
