Collections Intern



Gaston County Museum has a collections intern position available for

August-December 2008 (a longer period is a possibility). Intern will

work with the Curator and Registrar in re-housing and organizing objects

in the permanent and education collections. Additionally, the intern

will have the opportunity to assist with exhibits (prep, installation,

de-installation), collections accessioning and cataloging, and creating

computer records using PastPerfect.



Successful candidate will be detail oriented, organized, and able to

work independently. Must be able to work with and meet a strict

deadline, lift up to 30 lbs, climb stairs and ladders. Preference given

to candidates with previous museum work or course experience and/or

candidates wishing to pursue a career in museums. Housing and utilities

(excluding cable and phone) will be provided.

Archives Intern



Gaston County Museum has an archives intern position available for

responsible for processing the museum's institutional archives,

providing an overall arrangement of the collection, and re-housing the

collection.  



Successful candidate will be detail oriented, organized, and able to

work independently. Must be able to work with and meet a strict

deadline, lift up to 30 lbs, climb stairs and ladders. Preference will

be given to candidates with previous archives work or course experience

and/or candidates wishing to pursue a career in museums and/or archives.

Education Intern



The Gaston County Museum is currently seeking an intern to work in the

Education Department from August - December 2008 (a longer period is a

possibility).  This person will work closely with the Programs

Coordinator to learn program methods and strategies.  The intern will be

responsible for development, implementation, and evaluation of various

museum programs.  The intern will also work on other projects at the

museum and in the community as assigned.      



Successful candidate will be detail oriented, organized, and able to

work independently.  Must be able to work with and meet a strict

deadline, lift up to 30 lbs, climb stairs and ladders. Preference will

be given to candidates with previous education work or course experience

and/or candidates wishing to pursue a career in museums. Housing and
