ARCHIVIST



Announcement Date:       July 9, 2004

Position Status:                Temporary, full-time position (40 hours per
week)

Salary (Hourly Rate):      $14.50 / Hour (Grant funded for a total of 2000
Hours)

start date desired.



Position Summary:

Pearl S. Buck International (PSBI) is seeking a temporary, full-time
Archivist to assume responsibility for developing and implementing archival
collections management operations and archival preservation procedures for
the National Historic Landmark home of Pearl S. Buck.  Responsibilities
include development and implementation of policies and procedures for the
responsible registration, management and safekeeping of archival
collections; providing support of organization-wide adherence to
professional museum standards of operation and training of staff,
volunteers, and Board members; and ensuring departmental goals and
objectives are accomplished.



Position Requirements:

*     BA/BS in History/Library Science/Museum Studies (Master's preferred)
with minimum 3 to 5 years demonstrated experience in archival collections
management field position required

*     Must have valid driver's license & current automobile insurance
coverage & the ability to travel within the community throughout the workday
with full time access to an automobile

*     Must be able to lift and carry objects and materials up to 40 lbs and
be able to maneuver stairs without difficulty, crawl and work in confined
spaces or on ladders, and work around dust, mildew and mold.  Must have
sufficient visual/hearing capabilities to respond to public needs and for
detailed work

*     Proven knowledge and understanding of US archival principles, methods,
procedures & techniques

*     Proven knowledge of copyright laws and adherence to professional
ethics and laws relating to archival management

*     Has proven ability to develop and maintain indices, bibliographies and
other reference guides and materials

*     Prior experience with interpretation of archival collections and is
able to communicate that knowledge in a variety of written and oral formats

*     Proven knowledge and understanding of the techniques of selection,
evaluation, preservation, & restoration of objects, photographs, books &
ephemera

*     Working knowledge of computer programs, word processing and
PastPerfect

*     Detail oriented, highly organized, self-starting, innovative,
articulate, high energy, reliable, team player, & resourceful are desirable
attributes

Pearl S. Buck International (PSBI), a non-sectarian organization that
provides development and humanitarian assistance is seeking a highly
motivated individual to implement the archival collections management
operations of the Pearl S. Buck Historic Site.  This is a grant funded
temporary (full-time) position at our international home office located in
Dublin, PA (Bucks County).



On a quiet Bucks County estate, lies the remarkable home that belonged to
Pulitzer and Nobel Prize-winning author Pearl S. Buck.  Alone, the 1835
stone farmhouse is an excellent example of 19th Century Pennsylvania
architecture.  Her home tells the story of an extraordinary life, worthy of
