Agreed. I began looking for a museum job last winter because I knew I'd be
graduating with an MA in May & wanted to be proactive. Although my MA is in
Anthropology, I had worked part time for 2 years in a museum at school which
was a wonderful experience; I also taught 2 intro to archaeology classes.
Through all the resumes I sent out to both museum & non-museum openings, I
NEVER got a single interview from the museum side of things. It might just
mean I'm terribly unqualified, but then again I just recently landed a job
(medical profession) in a non-museum setting with a salary that is about $10k
more than most of the museum positions I applied for (low $20s). I would still
love to work in a museum in the future, but survival comes first, especially
with student loans now due. :)
