The Sculpture Journal, the UK's foremost scholarly journal devoted to sculpture in all its aspects from prehistory to the present across the globe, invites applications for the position of Co-Editor.

The journal provides an international forum for writers and scholars in the field of sculpture and public commemorative monuments, extending to commissions for contemporary sculpture. First published in 1997, Sculpture Journal offers a keen critical overview and a sound historical base, encouraging contributions of fresh research from new and established names in the field.

The current editorial team consists of four co-editors (one of whom is stepping down).
The successful applicant will begin in June 2024.


The Job
The new Co-Editor will be expected to:

  *   Proactively seek journal content through commissioning.
  *   Work generally with the co-editors to maintain the academic and professional standards of contributions, and to encourage healthy submission and rejection rates.
  *   Act as a point of contact for intending contributors.
  *   Assist with peer review and suggest referees for submitted manuscripts.
  *   Use the online submission system, ScholarOne Manuscripts.
  *   Assist the co-editors and the publishers in targeting potential contributors, readers and subscribers via academic institutions, governmental and non-governmental organisations, and academic and professional communities.
  *   Represent the journal at conferences and other academic and professional meetings.


Who Should Apply?
The ideal candidate will:

  *   Be an active and engaged member of the international academic community of sculpture studies.
  *   Have a good knowledge of cutting-edge research and work in the field.
  *   Have excellent networking skills, and extensive contacts.
  *   Have previous involvement with academic journals, for example, refereeing papers, guest-editing special issues, sitting on editorial boards.
  *   Be enthusiastic and organised, have an excellent command of English, and good attention to detail.



We would especially be interested in applicants whose specialism covers the Renaissance/Early Modern period.


The Co-Editor can expect to receive a modest honorarium.


The Selection Process
Applications should include the following information: name and contact details; why, in no more than 500 words, you think you can make a good co-editor; your ideas for developing the journal; other points in support of your application; a CV; names and contact details of two referees.
