FYI

if a piece appears in a major newspaper that may open the door to a lawsuit - does the writer of the piece get sued alone? no. everyone should remember that fact.

this is a 'self moderated' list - which in essence means nothing to me, anyone can post anything they want. i myself own a large popular list on another subject matter and i as owner screen and moderate each and every post - myself. any listowner who thinks they are washing their legal responsibility of publishing (yes, by owning an internet list you are a publisher) by simply stating that the list is 'self moderated' is sadly mistaken. even having posts archived without consent is a risk i do not take.

i strongly suggest everyone do their own research into internet ownership, publishing and copyright law - even suits filed against internet publishers for posts that appeared on their list. it has happened that a listowner may well be found liable and responsible for the public posts to his/her list even if the list is member only and posts are not viewable to the general public let alone when the posts are viewable to the general public like this list - regardless of how they get there.
