The Adams Museum & House, Inc., a private non-profit organization operating
a general history museum, historic house museum and research archive, seeks
interns to fill three positions for the summer of 2010.  The Adams is
located in Deadwood, South Dakota in the heart of the Black Hills National
Forest. Deadwood is a lively tourist town, with 2 million annual visitors,
nightly entertainment, live music, attractions and boundless outdoor
opportunities.

The AM&H seeks students at the junior, senior or graduate level to apply for
various internships for the summer of 2010. Qualified sophomores with
adequate coursework, experience and recommendations may be considered as
well. All summer internships run from June 1 – August 15, 2010; work hours
are flexible. Applications must be received by Friday, March 19, 2010.
Candidates will be contacted for interviews on or before March 26, 2010.
Interviews will be held the week of April 5, 2010.  All internships are
unpaid, but in most cases full course credit is available. Please contact

1.  *Education *

 GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The AM&H seeks one advanced undergraduate or graduate
level student with experience and related coursework in the field of
education to assist with summer programming for youth in grades K – 12.  This
includes three archaeology camp sessions, one history camp session, two
extended art workshops and one extended science workshop as well as
miscellaneous programming for area children and visitors.

 RELATED FIELDS OF STUDY:museum studies, education, history, American
Studies, English, tourism.

 2.  *Historic Gardens*

* *GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The AM&H seeks one to two students to complete
various projects at the Historic Adams House Victorian gardens. These
projects could include planting, transplanting and general care of the
gardens, creating a garden tour for the public, creating a garden brochure
and creation of plant description cards. Computer skills and knowledge of
gardening preferred.

 RELATED FIELDS OF STUDY:  Botany, outdoor education, biology, English,
history, horticulture, environmental studies, tourism.

 3.  *Collections/ Oral History*

* *GENERAL DESCRIPTION:The AM&H seeks one student to conduct oral history
interviews with individuals involved in the historic mining and ranching
communities of the Northern Black Hills. Student will complete research in
the museum collections, prepare interviews, transcribe them and convert them
into a usable form for public research.

 RELATED FIELDS OF STUDY: history, museum studies, library science.
