Gail, we had one years ago, and I have since decided I don't like them, and
that they contribute to something I don't think my institution, at least,
should be involved in. I worry that this appraisal stuff is not doing
museums any favors. I don't have any real stories, although I have to say
one of our long term supporters made a gift of the objects she had appraised
that day -- and they were good additions to the collection -- but she
probably would have anyway, being a good friend of the institution. I think
ours brought in a lot of people, but I didn't necessarily ever see their
faces again.
Sorry -- I guess I'm a tad negative!

Subject: Appraisal Days
Hello,
I am looking for comments on holding an appraisal day in a museum. If
anyone has had some experience with this, I would love to hear your
stories - the good and the bad.
Thank you.
Gail
