The available position is Architectural Historian at HHM Inc., a cultural resource management firm in Austin, Texas.  This is a full-time, salaried, professional position, and depending on the candidate's qualifications is either a 6-month contract position or a permanent position. An Architectural Historian has a graduate degree in architectural history, art history, or American studies with a concentration in architecture or an undergraduate degree in architectural history or a related field and at least three years work experience in the field of cultural resource management or preservation planning.  An Architectural Historian is expected to assume a primary role in the preparation of historic resources survey reports, Historic American Buildings Survey documentation, National Register nominations and other work products of the firm.  An Architectural Historian possesses a strong architectural vocabulary and must be able to analyze a property's salient physical features and identify and analyze alterations that may affect a property's historic integrity.  The primary responsibility of an Architectural Historian is preparing written physical descriptions of buildings and structures.  As such, strong writing skills are essential.  Travel may be required. Photography skills are also necessary.  A good knowledge of word-processing and related computer applications is also required.  An Architectural Historian is also able to analyze maps and architectural plans.
