Historic Preservation for Museums
Is your museum in an historic building?
Are you responsible for historic buildings?
Are you are a
good steward of your old buildings?
Have you thought about how what's good for artifacts may not be good for
an historic structure?
Did you know there are resources for historic buildings?

****
If you've wondered about the above or your museum cares for old
buildings, you should attend the workshop this fall called: Historic Preservation
for Museums

It will be held on October 6, 2009, at MPMA's annual museum conference
in Cheyenne, WY

This workshop is a rare occurrence since historic preservation is NEVER
oriented to museum folks. Now it is!!!

An unprecedented wealth of speakers will provide tips and facts about
historic preservation JUST FOR MUSEUMS.
Preservation specialists from Wyoming's State Historic Preservation Office
will describe historic preservation in plain language and how museum
professionals may use preservation programs. Curators who work with historic
buildings and collections will discuss challenges and solutions they have
experienced.

Workshop participants will also get to tour the historic section of F.E.
Warren Air Force Base, a National Historic Landmark which has tons of
historic structures still in use.
Sponsors: The State of Wyoming's State Historic Preservation Office and
F.E. Warren Air Force Base.
ALSO
Check out the sessions that will be offered during the conference on
historic preservation topics

a. and b. Protecting Historic Sites and Buildings:
This two-part series will focus on how museums can protect historic sites
and buildings. This is a good time to learn about the Section 106 Federal
process from fabulous presenters not normally at museum conferences:
State Historic Preservation Officers from Wyoming and South Dakota, a former
Tribal Historic Preservation Officer and the director of the National
Trust for Historic Preservation's regional office in Denver. This impressive
panel will provide you information on programs and concepts that you never
knew to ask about.

c. Historic House Museums:
Hear about new ideas on how to salvage historic house museums that are
struggling. Learn how to engage your board on these new ways.
