Director of Facilities


Position Purpose: To direct and oversee the maintenance staff and all
facilities on the grounds


Reportability: President and CEO, Interim Executive Director


Nature and Scope of the Position:
The Director of Facilities is responsible for the grounds, facilities and
facilities staff of Conner Prairie.  This position directs and supervises
staffing for all aspects of maintaining our total facility, including
facilities staff, trades staff, security and safety staff, contract
employees and grounds care.  The Director will routinely monitor the
acreage and facilities to ensure buildings, common areas, facilities and
grounds are at their best, and will take action to improve the areas that
are lacking.  This person is required to supervise, with an awareness of
compliance issues, short- and long-range design projects, repairs,
conservation and preventative maintenance programs while maintaining a
balanced budget, working collaboratively with all divisions and Directors
to uphold the mission and direction of Conner Prairie.

Qualification, Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Good oral and written communications skills
Ability to work well with both internal and external customers
2-year associate degree in a related field or 5-8 years with similar
experience necessary
Experience in coordinating new construction projects preferred
Broad knowledge of mechanical, electrical and HVAC equipment operation;
certification a plus
Experience in Emergency Management Systems (EMS)
Ability to read and understand detailed blueprints and material
specifications
Minimum 5 years management experience
Experience with safety planning strategies, familiarity with MSDS and OSHA
compliance laws
Awareness of conservation techniques and standard museum operating
procedures related to collections
Experience developing and maintaining a budget
Understanding of historic architecture and trades a plus

2.           Environmental Conditions:
Both environmental conditions: activities occur indoors and outdoors.
Extreme cold: Temperatures below 32 degrees for periods of more than one
hour.
Extreme heat: Temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one
hour.
Noise: There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to
be heard above the ambient noise level.
Hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to
moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and
high places, exposure to high heat or to chemicals.
Atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect
the respiratory system or the skin: fumes, odors, dusts, mildews, mold,
mists, gases, smoke, poor ventilation and/or exposure to sunlight.

backhoe, skid steer, tractor, dump truck, bulldozer

Principle Responsibilities:
Supervise short and long range facilities design and construction projects,
repair work, utilities and energy conservation
Provide direction and supervises staff for all aspects of facilities
including maintenance, trades, contract custodial services, security,
safety and grounds care
Understands, upholds and communicates the values, mission and direction of
Conner Prairie
Routinely monitor and ensure grounds and facilities are always at their best
Provide leadership and oversight in major capital construction projects
Work with Manager of Special Events to coordinate traffic control and EMT
staffing at Symphony on the Prairie and other high attendance events
Prepare and monitor budget
Work collaboratively with other Directors and Divisions to plan and
implement events and programs to ensure facilities and maintenance needs
are met
Assist the Human Resources Manager in recruiting and hiring candidates
Develop and coach employees for optimal performance
Represent Conner Prairie at external meetings and conferences
Act as liaison with Department of Natural Resources and government
agencies, alongside Director of Finance and Operations
Prepare reports for the President and Board
Develop preventative maintenance programs with Facilities Manager and
Building Technician
Adhere to Conner Prairie’s rules of conduct
Other duties as assigned
