You can't do it all. Pick and chose what is most important to you and
for goodness sake DON'T try to be the best at everything you do. It is
an impossible goal and only sets you up for frustration. Decades ago I
remember reading an article that basically said "whatever happened to
doing things badly?" For example: so what if the cookies you bake don't
look like the ones in the magazine? If you enjoy cooking what does it
matter if things don't look perfect?
Don't try to run all your site programs - find volunteers who can take
over some of them. If you have little children maybe no is not the time
to join other community groups - there will be plenty of time when they
get older. Most of all make sure you save some time just for you.
Otherwise you'll burn out - you need time to recharge.

Subject: A question of balance

My apologies for posting a personal question.

I am the executive director of an historic site. I am trying to be the
best at everything that I do, but am having trouble finding a balance
between work and family. How do you participate fully in the community,
attend/ run all public programs offered by

your site, and still have time to devote to your children?

Does anyone have insight into finding balance? (I have one other full
time staff member and some day hope to expand staff further).
