A new job in 2007. Hundreds of jobs listed weekly (yes, hundreds), covering queries for the following terms: museum, gallery, archaeology/archaeologist, anthropology/anthropologist, astronomy/astronomer, observatory, planetarium, state park, botanical garden, arboretum, aquarium, zoo, historian, and librarian. Jobs with transferrable job skills also provided in case you need to do something else until the job of your dreams comes through (to keep you out of the poor house and the government loan folks off your back). Resume and curriculum vitae, interviewing, opportunities to self-promote, employment law, state of the job market (hiring up/down), and many more pointers to keep you in the know made available.

Membership is free and, contrary to a number of posters to Museum-L, in the nearly five years the list has been available, no solicitations for payment or fees for posting have been requested on behalf of the owner/moderators. This is an international list with commoderation provided by Jim Roberts and Julia Moore, among others. Employers are encouraged to take advantage of the 1,773 membership as of today and to post their job listings for free. A fully moderated list, sorry, this is not the forum for multi-marketers, spammers, or those in India who would like to use the vehicle as an opportunity to promote outsourcing.

The exchange of documents relative to your day-to-day museum work. The corrollary to this group, MuseDocs is this list's veritable share drive. Why send things to 15 posters who want the same file you have offered when you can upload it to MuseDocs once and then announce it's availability on MuseDocs? Your peers can then access it for themselves. The greater the library you professionals make available to one another, the easier all of your jobs will be.

Technological pointers which may be of value to your institution. Postings are sparse but may be of interest to those who have IT issues.

Pointers and info interest to museum administrators/directors. Postings are sparse but may be of value to you.

Training Opportunities. Sometimes this list gets incredibly chatty, and separating the wheat from the chaffe becomes problematic, especially in the middle of our occasional (sometimes more occasional than others) disputes on the list. Training opportunities are cross-posted and archived there for quick reference, and info from other sources, including the California Arts Council are also posted there. Those sponsoring conferences are welcome to post their info at no charge.

Again, membership in all the above lists is entirely free, each list is moderated, and spammers are banned. I encourage you to avail yourselves of the resources that could be at your fingertips.

Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, Happy Solstice, Sensual Festivus, Kool Kwanza, Enlightened Eid, and Bah Humbug to the spammers and curmudgeons!

Peace on the lists and goodwill to all museum folk and afficianados everywhere! And God Bless the Spaghetti Monster!

  Happy holidays!
