i apologize for doubling the number of messages i have sent today thus
far.  :)

i forgot to mention that it may also depend on how your museum treats the
usual use of degrees in different fields.  by this i mean, the vast
majority of studio art degree-seekers probably end with the mfa, while
many art education people seek ma's (for certification), but art
historians may seek phd's because of job requirements.  as a former
professor of mine once said (which i will make into a question), what, in
the field and job market you are speaking of, is the "coin of the realm"?

and of course, do you then want to adjust terminal degrees based on
field/position?  a whole different issue.
