Positions Available:  Visitor Programs Coordinator

FLSA Classification:  Non-exempt/part-time

Department:    Special Events

General Summary: Plan, organize, manage, and evaluate creative and popular
public programs and activities for adults and families, with special focus
on weekends and peak visitor seasons. Work schedule approximately 25 hours
per week; includes weekend and occasional evening work, according to program
and event schedules.  Work closely with, and oversee, special events
volunteers.

Job Qualifications:
Previous training and experience: Undergraduate degree in elementary
education, recreation, marketing, or related field; two years' experience in
museum programming, public programming, or event planning preferred. Other
highly desirable skills include: knowledge of horticulture or natural
history; museum interpretation; public relations and customer satisfaction
skills; and good written and oral communication skills. Must be able to
manage a schedule of regular programs, all at various stages of planning,
execution, and evaluation.

Physical/Mental Requirements: An outgoing people-personality energized by
public contact and interaction is essential.  Creative, dynamic, energetic,
and friendly individual who finds satisfaction working with family audiences
and volunteers; must be a self-starter with the ability to motivate others,
manage events, and accept responsibility.  Excellent skills in planning,
organization, and supervision.  Must be flexible and available to work
weekends and some evenings, according to events schedule.

Working Conditions
1.    Work is performed in a combined indoor (70%) and outdoor (30%)
setting.
2.    Requires some physical activity: lifting and carrying (up to 25 lbs.);
walking over all    types of terrain; some travel by car and train.
3.    Weekend and some evening work required.

Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access), e-mail, basic computation,
photocopier, FAX.
