Hi, Karen -- great topic for AAM. Do you mean you're looking for art museum/science museum collaborations specifically, or for art museum programs that have forged art and science programs (but not necessarily museum-to-museum collaborations)?

If the latter, the Williamson Gallery at ArtCenter College in Pasadena has undertaken a decade-plus exploration of the art-science intersection, often in collaboration with science institutions such as Caltech, JPL, CERN, Spitzer Space Telescope, or other art-science resources at places lik Descanso Gardens, The Huntington Library, etc. Some of those projects are indexed at http://williamsongallery.net/artsci , and others at http://williamsongallery.net/google . The Williamson Gallery’s current artsci project called UNCERTAINTY will open in October, and can be glimpsed at http://williamsongallery.net/uncertainty.pdf . In summer 2017 the exhibition ECLIPSE will ponder the art, science, and cultural lore of solar eclipses (in collaboration with Williams College, Mass. Astronomer Jay Pasachoff and NY Historical Society curator Roberta Olson), and in fall 2017 a history of Mars in photography is being assembled by guest-curator Jay Belloli. In 2018 MOONS will explore the fascinating worlds that are satellites of our solar system’s planets.

All best,

/stephen

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Collaborations between art and science museums

Reply-To: Museum discussion list <[log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>>

Museum-l list,

I am hoping to pull together a session proposal for AAM next year focused on collaborations between art and science museums that showcase connections between artists and scientists.

Does anyone have suggestions for programs you’ve seen, worked with, or heard about?

Thank you!

Karen
