POSITION AVAILABLE: Membership Manager

FLSA Classification:  Full-time/Exempt

Department: External Affairs

General Summary: Lead the Arboretum's Membership office by developing
effective strategies for membership, recruitment, and retention.  
Responsible for membership outreach efforts to current and potential 
members, including visitors and the general public. Grow the Arboretum's 
membership according to annual membership projections and the strategic 
plan.  Coordinate daily operations of the Membership office.  Develop and 
implement long-range planning strategies for membership growth and 
retention, including mailings, special events, and other promotions and 
activities.


Job Qualifications: 
Previous Training and Experience 
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree.  Verifiable employment record and 
experience in public service roles with at least 3-5 years of professional 
experience in an active membership program, or in the management of a 
museum visitor program desirable.  Experience in public speaking.  Must 
have outstanding oral and written communication skills.  Customer service 
and satisfaction training required either in recent past or will be required 
as part of the orientation process.  Prior supervisory experience is 
essential.  Must have working knowledge of computer database, 
spreadsheet, and word processing software, including Microsoft Word, 
Excel, PowerPoint and e-mail programs.  Raiser's Edge experience 
preferred.  Must demonstrate flexibility in work schedule, including regular 
weekend and evening hours.

Physical/Mental Requirements
Must be a person who prefers to interact with the public, is consistently 
courteous and patient, and able to energize staff and motivate people to 
become Arboretum members.  Leadership skills in planning, organizing, 
problem solving, and delegation.  An energetic and constructive attitude is 
essential in this position, one that exhibits and actively promotes positive 
energy and a spirit of teamwork and partnership.  Customer service 
oriented individual who is able to relate effectively with people of various 
cultural backgrounds, levels of education and experience.  Ability to work 
under pressure, and to attend to and meet multiple deadlines with 
frequent interruptions.  Continuously looks for and suggests better ways 
to conduct work and promotes this in others.  

Working Conditions
1. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, and sometimes off-site.
2. Requires some physical activity: lifting and carrying (25 lbs.), climbing 
stairs, prolonged periods of standing/sitting.
