While I admire Deb for taking the time to explain so much about
getting into the museum profession, I have to take exception to part
of her comments in point 3.  If you notice that I'm a museum
registrar, you can probably guess what I'm going to say.

Registration positions are not consolation prizes for would-be
curators.  If you want to be a curator, go for the curatorial
assistant or even department secretary (if you have the necessary
office skills) but don't think you're necessarily qualified to be a
registrar just because the job description doesn't require the Ph.D.

Deb's point, I think, was that you can't expect to start at the top.
Accept that you're going to be someone's assistant for a while, and
look for those positions for which you are qualified.
