Dear Chris, Deb and others,

Unlike Chris, I did go through a museum studies program--Cooperstown in 1967-68 and have worked in the field ever since. Certainly there are many more museum studies program available now than there were in the late 1960s. There were 30 students in my class at Cooperstown. There are probably fewer than five of us still in this field. I worked at Conner Prairie the summer before my senior year in college and decided that museum work might be another option other than teaching or getting an MLS degree with my undergraduate degree in history. One thing that has not changed in the last 30 years is the difficulty of landing that first museum job. I took the Cooperstown degree as a way of getting into the field and it worked, for me.

I look forward to hearing others' stories.
