Do you know what it is about your museum that “makes or breaks” the visitor experience? Everyone who arrives at your museum or historic site has expectations, needs and wants that not only determine whether they have a highly enjoyable experience but also whether or not they will return.

Clearly understanding your visitors’ expectations―and what will bring them back for repeat visits―is critical to the success of your organization. Assumptions, guesses, and “that’s the way we’ve always done it”-isms do not create thriving and sustainable museums.

Visitors Count! is a visitor survey program that identifies what’s working and what needs improvement from the visitor’s point of view. The next opportunity to use Visitors Count! to survey your visitors is spring/summer 2014 with a January 15 starting date to begin creating your museum’s customized survey questionnaire. Or, you can survey in summer/fall 2014 with a June 1 starting date. Are you a destination for snowbirds, snow skiers, cruise ships or holiday travelers? We can tailor your survey project to include those visitors as well as other special audiences.

If your organization is interested in using Visitors Count! to collect valuable visitor data and feedback, contact Cherie Cook, AASLH senior program manager at 573.893.5164 or [log in to unmask]
