In 2002, the College Art Association adopted Guidelines regarding the
hiring by museums of guest curators, exhibitor/artists, and catalogue
essayists as outside contractors. You can find them on their website
under "guidelines." Here is the link...

These guidelines will give you a start; they are comprehensive to say
