  Head of Collections
CHF invites applications for the position of head of collections in the Roy Eddleman Institute for Interpretation and Education. This position supervises the overall management and enlargement of collections of objects, archives, and fine art appropriate to CHF's mission and strategic plan; directs the planning of exhibits; collaborates with advisors and constituents in locating, acquiring, documenting, and interpreting analytical instruments for collection and display; and participates in planning a multimillion-dollar building renovation and construction of major exhibits.

Reporting to the director of the Roy Eddleman Institute for Interpretation and Education, the head of collections will:

   Oversee CHF's collections archives, objects, and fine art; maintain and update the collections plan; and establish collection goals;
   Actively engage with constituents, advisors, and scholars to inform the collections plan; interpret the collections, develop exhibits, and target sources of archives and objects;
   Assist with fundraising, as appropriate, and cultivate relationships with relevant donors or benefactors to the collections;
   Through a professional network, keep abreast of issues, dialogues, or debates regarding the collection and interpretation of instrumentation in science;
   Enhance and promote the prestige of the collections internationally as the "repository of choice" for the material heritage of the chemical and molecular sciences; and
   Supervise and develop collections staff.
  The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

   Advanced degree in history of science, technology, or medicine, or a scientific or related field, or a combination of education and experience relevant to the position;
   In-depth knowledge of standard practices in building and sustaining historical collections, including a minimum of five years experience in an appropriate museum environment;
   Experience in overseeing online collections databases;
   Experience in conceiving and developing exhibits;
   Experience in managing professional staff;
   Computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel;
   Performing well at self-directed work and taking initiative to manage time and meet deadlines; and
   Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment; being adaptable and flexible.
  In addition, a background in the chemical and molecular sciences and experience in interpretive outreach in museums are helpful attributes for this position.
