The Smithsonian Institution hosted "Museums for the New Millennium,"
September 5-7, 1996, a symposium for the museum community in celebration
of the 150th anniversary of the Smithsonian. Now join the hundreds who
have attended the virtual "Museums for the New Millennium" symposium on
the World Wide Web at http://www.si.edu/cms/proceed.htm Completely
updated, the virtual symposium contains transcriptions of all symposium
sessions, images and links all over the World Wide Web, from American Art
to the Wicked Witch of the West.

( Museums for the New Millennium brought together museum professionals
from the United States and abroad to explore the implications of radical
social, economic, technological and political change on the nature and
structure of museums for the coming decades. Through plenary and
break-out sessions, speakers and participants identified and interpreted
significant emerging issues in the field, disseminated new information and
diverse perspectives, and examined the role and function of museums in the
21st century. )

Join us in Atlanta, during the annual American Association of Musem
conference, at the session, Celebrating an Anniversary/Creating a
Resource: Museums for the New Millennium, scheduled for Tuesday, April
29, 1997, 3:30 - 4:45 pm.
