Nancy,
Check, also, with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, www.nationaltrust.org. They deal with these issues all the time and often write about them in Preservation magazine.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] balance between use and preservation

Can anyone point me in the direction of journal articles (or other references) that discuss diffusing the tension that sometime arises between use and preservation in a research-oriented collection; or to rephrase, balancing the access and use concerns of researchers and the organizational, procedural, and preservation concerns of collection managers?

  Thank you,

  N. Jenner
