MINORITY AWARDS PROGRAM - Internship and Visiting Student Awards

In-residence Internships and Visiting Student awards at the Smithsonian are
available for students to participate in research or museum-related
activities for periods of 10 weeks. The appointments carry a stipend of $400
per week and travel allowances may be provided. U.S. minority undergraduate
and graduate students are encouraged to apply.

Research fields include Animal behavior, ecology, and environmental
science, including an emphasis on the tropics; Anthropology, including
archaeology; Astrophysics and astronomy; Earth sciences and paleobiology;
Evolutionary and systematic biology; History of science and technology;
History of art, especially American, contemporary, African, and Asian art,
twentieth-century American crafts, and decorative arts; Social and cultural
history of the United States; Folklife.

Postmark Deadline for Summer and Fall: February 1

Internship Awards are available for students currently enrolled in an
undergraduate or graduate program and an overall G.P.A. of 3.0 or its
equivalent generally is expected. The relevance of an internship at the
Smithsonian to the student's academic and career goals will be an important
part of the evaluation of an applicant. Most successful candidates are
students of the disciplines in which the Smithsonian conducts research.

Visiting Student Awards are available for currently enrolled advanced
graduate students in fields that are actively pursued by the museums and
research organizations of the Institution. Visiting Students pursue
independently designed research projects in association with Smithsonian
staff.
