Matthew,
At my program, you are required to do a concentration: registration,
exhibition development, administration, or education. you take two core
courses giving oversight to the general workings of museums and a thesis
project. The other classes are a blend on hands on activities, field trips,
and lectures from the professors and guest speakers.
There is a lot of reading, but it is mostly on the practical knowledge that
is needed on the job. I am a first year, and it is very intense. I am coming
straight from undergrad with a BA in history and second major: phil. I am
used to the reading and papers, but then again school is always stressful. I
am focusing on registration but am also going to try to get experience in
other areas. I am interested in exhibition development.
