Massachusetts Society of the Cincinnati Internship 2006

 


The Society of the Cincinnati, a non profit institution that maintains its historic house museum and research library at Anderson House in Washington, D.C., offers the 2006 Massachusetts Society of the Cincinnati Internship to an individual interested in museum interpretation and education.  This summer's Massachusetts Society Intern will research and write a holiday tour for Anderson House and develop a holiday interpretation plan for the museum.  The internship carries a $1,600 stipend through the generosity of the Massachusetts Society of the Cincinnati.

 

Applicants should be graduate students studying history, art history, material culture studies, museum studies, or related subjects who are interested in a future museum career.  Students with a dedicated interest in the Gilded Age and Washington, D.C., history are strongly encouraged to apply.  The Massachusetts Society Internship requires a minimum of six weeks of full-time work or ten weeks of part-time work.  Start and end dates are flexible.

 

Founded in 1783, the Society of the Cincinnati is the nation's oldest patriotic organization, established by American officers of the Continental army and navy to preserve the ideals and fellowship for which they had fought.  The Society of the Cincinnati strives to promote public interest and scholarship in the American Revolution, the Society of the Cincinnati, and Anderson House, a National Historic Landmark.  This Beaux Arts mansion, designed by Little & Browne of Boston, was built between 1902 and 1905 as the winter residence of Larz Anderson, an American diplomat, and his wife, Isabel Weld Perkins, an author and Red Cross volunteer.
