After many frustrating months of being unable to
access my files and make changes I've long wanted to
do, I have finally been able to modify Got Links, my
one-stop employment portal and, miracle of miracles, I
actually found the patience to make all the changes.
The document was reformatted from its current two
links to a line to four. All previously existing
links were checked for validity, and over 250 new
links have been added.
So, what can you find at Got Links?
Headhunters
* I'm pleased to report that Geri Thomas, the Museums
list's most gracious NY placement specialist has been
added to the Headhunter section.
Resumes
* Many new resume pointers and quite a few
instructional curriculum vitae resources have been
added.
Professional Jobs
* A cornucopia of professional resources have been
included. There are many scientific resources,
medical, IT, law enforcement, military transitions,
legal sites, anthropology and archaeology locales,
educational, legal, financial, and much more.
Comprehensive Employment Sites
* Over 90 links were added to this section alone
* There are many area-specific job links, places for
major towns and states in the US, and career sites for
jobs round the world. There are links for UK,
Australian, African, Indian, Canadian, Mexican, South
American, French, and Italian sites. There are two
new resources for Native American job seekers.
* There are places for volunteers, People with
Disabilities, Homeless, Gay, Republican, Christian,
Democrat, Senior, and Teen resources. Wanna drive for
NASCAR or fish in Alaska? There are categories for
you. Want to work in forestry in Canada or for Disney
in California or Orlando? There are links there, too.
Nonprofit/Museum Info
* A wealth of information, including Jim Roberts' UK
employment site, Deb Fuller's museum jobs primer, and
Roy Hemmat's delightful Museumstuff, has been added.
* A number of the new museums-related lists are
contained there.
Temporary Jobs
* This section was reformatted slightly to mirror the
others, and a couple of new sites were added.
Employment Topics
Here there were many additions and reformatting. You
can find:
* Interview questions, the tough ones, the forbidden
ones, the ones to anticipate. There are articles that
discuss when to infuse your personal life, and sources
to ask questions.
* A practice typing test and many versions of some of
the more popular personality inventories used in the
career world.
* You can check your references, learn how to price a
job offer, calculate equivalent salaries, get
relocation or retirement insights, learn about
self-employment, get tax help, and learn about all
manner of employment law, some very new and quite
specific. You can do legal research and find out in
which Appellate District you reside (US).
* You can find a source to learn about accommodations
for People with Disabilities in your facility and
learn what your obligations are in that regard.
* Find out how to search and access a number of the
better search engines, or sign up for government
newsletters, and access newspapers from all over.
* You can sign up for Tourbus, learn how to make a
shorter link, find the Museums archives,
Indecision2000 (disability and politics), or Hud-CofC
(which deals with issues surrounding homelessness).
And you can find the other new museums-related lists
recently created.
* If you haven't got a clue and want to know what
your future holds, you can even consult UK astrologist
Jonathan Cainer, part of the backbone of my daily
reading, largely because he amazes me and makes me
laugh.
Got Links has a lot more than that. Why not click on
it now, bookmark it for later reference, and see for
yourself!
