MEET LAURA FINGER!

I am in the thesis stage of my MA program, looking for
some tips on making the transition from student/
scholar to entry-level professional.

I have worked as a cataloging/collections intern in a
small county museum and a large state museum. My
first love is in collections, and I would like advice
on how to make the transition during the first year as
I begin my job hunt.

I am looking for a job within the West or Northeast (I
live in the South and attend Middle Tennessee State
University, and I want to get a different perspective
after graduation). Although I'm really excited about
beginning this new stage of my life, it is a bit
overwhelming.

If anyone has any tips on starting over in a different
section of the country, it would be very much
appreciated.

I also am looking at getting into museum education,
but outside of lecture classes, my work with
elementary children is limited. I volunteered with
high school students and worked for two years as a GTA
teaching college students. My experience with adults
is solid, but I don't know about the younger tykes.

I will graduate from my MA program "well-rounded" with
stints in preservation, archives, legal training,
and a BA in English. Now I need help in finding out
how to mix all of those into a career in collections
or museum education.
