Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Inflated Expectations for Small Museums?


Dear Colleagues: [indulgence coveted for cross-posting]



Is it unrealistic to expect that "Small museums have to do everything that large museums do" [emphasis added] as stated by American Alliance of Museums President & CEO Laura Lott stated while Introducing the yellow balloon small museum special issue of the AAM journal Museum last November?

The previous blog post on 13 November 2019 provides an overview of the background of concerns among small museums in the early 1980s through 2006 regarding the impact of standards regimes on sustainability. Unrealistic expectations are not a new problem for small museums!
