AH-TAH-THI-KI MUSEUM

NATURE OF WORK

The incumbent in this position is responsible for assisting with the creation of new exhibits and the maintenance of permanent exhibit galleries.  This position is also responsible for the management of the Seminole Traveling Exhibits Program (STEP).  This position reports to the Curator of Exhibitions and is a non-exempt position.  Only U.S. citizens and permanent residents will be considered.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

The listed duties are only illustrative and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed by this position. The omission of specific statements does not preclude management from assigning specific duties not listed, if such duties are a logical assignment to the position.


  *   Assists in the preparation, installation and de-installation of museum exhibits. Ensures compliance with all policies and procedures regarding safety and preservation of all museum objects and artifacts.

*         Coordinates exhibit's planning timeline to ensure timely production of all components.

*         Organizes exhibit related events such as opening receptions and other promotional activities.

*         Serves as initial contact person for STEP requests. Coordinates and arranges with other Museum divisions all administrative and operational aspects regarding STEP. Manages, develops and implements promotional and marketing plan for STEP and temporary exhibits.

*         Creates smaller graphic design elements for exhibits. Contacts and serves as liaison with vendors for outsourced design elements requests.

*         Organizes and maintains exhibit files, records and documents on shared network (Tribenet) and within the Museum database (PastPerfect).

*         Assists Curator of Exhibitions and Exhibits Preparator as needed.

*         Provides timely content for the exhibits pages of the website and may contribute to the quarterly Museum Newsletter ("AQ") and Seminole Tribune publications providing information regarding STEP and temporary exhibits.

  *   Attends Museum's staff meetings and other committee meetings as required. Lends support in other Museum areas as directed.
  *   Follows all STOF's guidelines, and maintains current knowledge of local and state guidelines as it relates to Museum's collections.
  *   Must adhere to all Seminole Tribe of Florida's policies and procedures.
  *   Performs other duties as assigned.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES


  *   Knowledge of Seminole Tribe of Florida's culture and history.
  *   Knowledge of art and art history; art techniques and media; exhibition design and installation; artwork conservation and preservation and art work matting and framing.
  *   Knowledge of Graphic Design methods and principles.
  *   Knowledge of the guidelines and best-practices of museum collections management.
  *   Knowledge of safe handling methods, procedures and techniques for museum artifacts and equipment.
  *   Knowledge of exhibit production techniques, carpentry, plastics fabrication and metalworking.
  *   Ability to perform hands-on work necessary to fabricate and implement exhibit elements in a precise and aesthetic way and to conduct exhibit maintenance.
  *   Ability to handle multiple projects and see projects to a point of completion.
  *   Ability to serve the Tribal community, the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity.
  *   Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the STOF Tribal community, general public, co-workers and elected officials.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree in History, Anthropology or Museum-related studies is required. Master's degree preferred.  Minimum of three (3) years of museum experience in exhibit preparation and design or related field is required. Prior experience managing a traveling exhibits program is preferred. Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License is required.  Demonstrate proficiency in computer software including Microsoft Office, Adobe and PastPerfect. Graphic design skills is preferred. Demonstrate excellent organizational and interpersonal skills including excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to travel and work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Typically, the incumbent may sit comfortably to do the work; there may be occasional walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, such as books, papers; may drive a company vehicle. Must be able to comfortably lift 50 lbs.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Mostly works in a clean, air-conditioned office area, with little noise.  During periods of exhibit preparation must be able to help with assembling and disassembling exhibits using small tools and performing light duty type of work.
