"Launching the Amistad On-line:
Internet Technologies for Public Programming"

February 28-29 with James R. Blackaby
Offered through the Cultural Resource Management Program, University of
Victoria
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From the time the keel was laid in 1998 to late March when the Amistad slips
down the ways at Mystic Seaport, people around the world will have been part
of the ship-building experience, thanks to Internet technologies that bring
a wealth of resources together around an event. Web sites provide access to
integrated research and educational information, and use sound, images and
interactive elements to bring such events to life. Using the launch of the
Amistad as a case study, this workshop develops your ability to:
        *  recognize innovative ways in which internet technologies can link
people and cultural heritage resources and events in online public programs
        *  appreciate the power of integrated information systems to create
rich multi-media learning experiences
        *  use technology to re-purpose and repackage museum activities
        *  select appropriate technologies and strategies
        *  understand the technical knowledge and resources necessary to
undertake different kinds of programming
Dates: February 28 - 29
Please register by: February 10 (late registrations will be accepted if
space permits)
Fee: $270 (Canadian funds, non-credit)
"Jim Blackaby is very much on the edge of the technology and brings this to
class, along with a great sense of humour!"
