At the Loudoun Museum in Virginia they had some old medicine bottles but the
contents were mostly dried.  I guess it depends what form they're in.  If
they are nothing but residue then its probably safe.  If they're in liquid
form precautions should be taken.  If nothing else, mark the bottles in an
unobtrusive place with warning signs of some sort.
