We are a very small museum (annual budget $37K) and so we do not have
sophisticated survey tools. We do have a register which asks for date,
name, address, comment, and number in party. From that we have gleaned
that we have had people from every continent but Antartica and from 47 of
the states. We also have a bulliten board with two small (8.5 X 11")
maps: one of the USA and one of the World. We ask visitors to a pin in
their community if one is not already in their town. On that I have to
watch for playful children who love to punch things.

When we had a traveling exhibits from ExhibitsUSA, MidAmerica Arts
Alliance, we changed the comments column to read "How did you learn of
the exhibit?" and got some interesting results.
