*Internship Opportunity*

Winter/ Spring 2011



The Sheboygan County Historical Museum is pleased to announce the
availability of up to two (2) internships for the Winter/ Spring of
2011.   Several
projects are available for an individual to choose from, including:



1.      *New Acquisition Cataloging.  *

Work with collection staff on cataloguing new acquisitions to the
museum.  Duties
may include numbering, data entry into PastPerfect, condition reporting, and
identification photography.

2.      *Education Program Cataloging.*

Work with collection and education staff to create a record of objects used
in the Museum’s Education Programs.  Duties may include numbering, data
entry in PastPerfect, identification photography, object research, and
volunteer contact regarding potential and/or previous donations.

3.      *Third Saturday Teaser Exhibits.*

Work with collection staff to create small (up to  35  sq. feet) teaser
exhibits for upcoming Third Saturday programs.  Duties may include artifact
selection, artifact cataloging, label writing, installation, and
deinstallation.

4.      *Other projects.*

Dependent upon applicant’s interests, other available projects include
working with the full day student education programs, Third Saturday
programming, and other collection cataloging projects.   Internships
combining several areas can also be developed.



Applicants for this internship should be able to work independently, be
detail oriented, and have excellent written and oral communication
skills.  Applicants
must be comfortable working with computers, volunteers, and the public.  A
background (either education or work) in museum studies or history is
preferable.  Hours are flexible, but the intern should plan on primarily
working between 9 am and 5 pm, Monday-Friday.    A stipend (to be paid upon
completion of 150 hours) of $600 is available to an applicant who accepts
this internship as part of an education experience.



The Sheboygan County Historical Museum is dedicated to “the discovery,
collection, and preservation of information, records, and objects relating
to the history of the county of Sheboygan and the dissemination of knowledge
concerning the same.”  Embracing this mission, the museum primarily serves
the county’s 116,000 residents, along with members of the surrounding five
counties through the maintenance of the historic buildings and exhibits,
full day student education programs, and extensive public programming,
including numerous changing exhibits, monthly historical program series, and
several other public programs.
