More About Train to Share: Interoperability Training for Cultural Heritage
Institutions

The Texas State Library and Archives Commission, working with the University
of North Texas Libraries, Amigos Library Services, and other partners, has
received a Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Grant to develop Train to
Share, a training program administered as part of the Texas Heritage
Digitization Initiative. The three-year project will address the need,
identified nationally, but equally evident at the local level, to create
sharable metadata and develop state-wide workshops, adapted from the Library
of Congress’s "The Digital Library Environment" series, which provides an
overview of interoperability measures for digitization projects and
principles of sharable metadata. As a result of completing the Train to
Share program, selected cultural heritage institutions will work together as
a team to provide better access to their rare and unique materials, and, in
the process, will forge new and sustainable partnerships vital to the
ongoing development of digital projects across the state.
