Exhibit Designer, North Carolina Division of State Historic Sites

 

Description of Work: The exhibit designer (Historic Sites Specialist II, vacancy #4802-0401-0002-303) is responsible for the management of exhibit design projects at 27 North Carolina Historic Sites. The designer, located in Raleigh, is the chief designer of all in-house design projects and directs contracted work. Prepares design concepts for interior and wayside exhibits; designs floor plans, panels, cases, exhibit lighting; produces panel layouts; and submits drawings for review. The designer also directs and inspects exhibit fabrication and installation and serves on exhibit-planning teams. Salary range: $28987 - $46653

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of current exhibit practices and trends. Knowledge of computer exhibit and graphic design, including Illustrator, Photoshop, Autocad, & others. Skill in supervising and negotiating with vendors & contractors. Skill in the design of museum exhibits and 3-D spaces. Skill in computer design techniques. Ability to recognize problems, develop solutions, and work with planning teams. 

 

Training and Experience Requirements: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree specific to the area of specialization required and three years of progressive experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
