Hello colleagues... if you're in the Chicago area....
Feb 28, Monday, 7 PM – <http://www.sheddaquarium.org/> Shedd Aquarium – A Night of <http://www.earthwatch.org/expeditions/davis.html> Sea Otters with Principal Investigator Randall Davis. Come to this Shedd event for a night with Dr. Randall Davis, Professor of Marine Biology at Texas A&M University. He has studied marine mammals, including sea otters, for over 26 years. In 1989 he directed the sea otter rehabilitation program following the Exxon Valdez oil spill. He arranged for a group of otters that could not be rehabilitated to be cared for and displayed at the Shedd Aquarium’s Oceanarium. With help from Earthwatch volunteers, he is conducting a photo-ID study of Sea <http://www.earthwatch.org/expeditions/davis.html> Otters in Prince Williams Sound to help understand the recent decline in sea otters. Have hungry killer whales, faced with a decline in Steller’s sea lions, turned to sea otters, or could pollution be affecting the otters or their invertebrate prey?
Fee: $18 ($15 Shedd Aquarium members). You must register with the Shedd Aquarium’s Group Reservations Department at 312-692-3333. Some street metered parking on E. Solidarity Drive and plenty of parking at the nearby Soldier Field North Lot for $7 after 4PM. Find convenient public transportation at the CTA planner <http://tripsweb.rtachicago.com/> website.
... and Shedd is just completing a two-week shutdown to spruce up for our 75th Anniversary celebration, so the place will be all spiffy with some new exhibits in place.
