I do a twenty minute slide show for local service groups and classes on this subject, mostly to dissuade them from the common image that museums are (history) dusty places full of duplicative items which belonged to old dead white guys, or (art) snobbish places where you have to be quiet.  

Perhaps we ought to ask Mr. Hunter (the original poster) to tell us who asked him to define "museum" and to what end - it would make the discussion more useful to him if we knew the context.
