At home, we've used (at hospital advice) an empty laundry detergent container, well marked "SHARPS - DO NOT RECYCLE." In Minnesota, anyway, it's legal to then put the closed container into the garbage. It's possible that your local hospital would be willing to let you dispose of them there, too.
