Borrowing an idea from Colonial Williamsburg, we put the headboard and footboard together with cushioned blocks at each end and use straps around the outside to hold together (placing microfoam between the strap and contact points), then wrap the rails and place on top of the blocks. The whole unit stands alone and doesn't take up much space.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] storage solution for headboards, etc.?

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone out there have a great method for storing large objects that cannot support themselves upright such as headboards, footboards, detached dresser mirrors, etc.? We are considering building an a structure in-house that would consist of a platform with uprights, somewhat like a painting cart on a large scale. If anyone has already solved this issue your input would be appreciated! Photos would be a big help too. Thanks!
