A lot depends on the angle that visitors will view this pond from, how
far away they are, the surrounding elements of the diorama, and the
lighting.

As an objects conservator I have seen some really creative solutions
to the problems of producing faux liquids in historic vessels. A very
talented objects conservator and colleague, the late Stephen Ray. once
recreated a half full (or is that half empty) 18th century chamber pot
by airbrush painting a thin sheet of plexiglass that was cut to fit
perfectly inside of the vessel. A similar approach may work work your
pond again depending on the setting, angle, lighting etc.

In a current project our lab is recreating missing panels of
irridescent favirle glass for an architectural project using an epoxy
base and inpainting in layers of mica pigments mixed in a reversible
acrylic resin.

Conservators often match surfaces and colors in loss compensation in
every media imaginable - so if you have a skilled conservator nearby
ask their advice.
